Why Book?

Because We Like To Limit Our Numbers

We ask you to book in advance for our Jack the Ripper tour of London as this enables us to limit the size of the group you will be joining to a sensible and manageable number.

We are not one of the huge cattle drive tours that are giving the Jack the Ripper walking tours such a bad name, both in the area itself and on various review sites where disgruntled participants, who have turned up to find themselves part of an unsightly scrum, have posted their frustrations at the practice by certain operators of marching 75, 100 or even 200 participants around in one group.

Knowledgeable Guides

These are the London walks companies that start from Tower Hill Station that advertise that there is "no need to book just turn up." Whereas this sounds wonderfully non-committal, and even slightly bohemian, just pause for a moment and consider what that simple statement means. If there is no need to book and people can just turn up, then there is no way of knowing how many people are going to take them at their word and just turn up.

The result for you, the client, is that, when you arrive at the starting point, you can find yourself confronted by an unsightly scrum of 70, 80, 100, and sometimes even 200 people who have also just turned up for a Jack the Ripper tour.

Would you really enjoy that?

One company has even stated on a travel forum, responding to a complaint about the size of the group, that the advantage of their just turn up policy is that if you think the group size is too big you can go away and come back another night!

With our walking tour of the murder sites, which starts at Aldgate East Underground Station, we want you to experience the tour on the night that you want to do it on and as part of a reasonably sized group that means you can actually enjoy it.

Advance Booking Makes Sense

So, with our walking tour, we keep the numbers to what we know is a manageable number of approximately 34 people per guide.

It's better for you, it's better for the locals who live in the area, and it's better for the guide.

Smaller Groups

With our tours there's no struggling to hear the guide at the back of an unsightly mass of people.

Instead, you are part of a more intimate group and are able to hear every word and are able to discuss this fascinating case with your guide and fellow walkers.

Don't you think that is a far more positive experience?

So, when choosing which company to take your Jack the Ripper tour with, be sure to choose wisely.

You can just turn up at Tower Hill and become part of a massive cattle drive walk that might number over 100 people, all of whom are struggling to hear and see just one guide. Or, you can join us at Aldgate East Station (which is right in the heart of the area where the murders occurred) having pre-booked your places and be part of a much smaller, sensibly sized group on the Jack the Ripper walk that is, famously heard not herd.

Our Advantage

In addition to our smaller group sizes, we also offer you a level of customer service that is second to none.

We have a dedicated phone line that is manned between 6pm and 8pm on the night of your tour so that, should you encounter any problems, you will be able to speak to a member of staff who will ensure you reach the tour with the minimum of fuss.

At the time of booking we ask you top provide us with a mobile phone number. This is so we can call you on the night itself if their are any serious travel problems in central London.

Also, before the guides set off they will phone the office to let us know of any "no shows". Our office staff will then phone you to offer assistance. Clients who have encountered difficulties in the past have often commented on this level of service. To get a phone call if you are running late, or have managed to get lost, from a friendly staff member who can get you to the tour with minimum fuss is, in many of our clients opinions, a level of service that they never expected.

Of course, it goes without saying that, if you have not booked and have just turned up, the company has no way of knowing that you are experiencing difficulties and so you'll be left to find your own way to the tour!

Small Groups Are Best

Many is the time in the course of our Jack the Ripper tour that we pass one of the massive cattle drive London walks. Our clients always comment on how glad they are that they had the good sense to book so that they are not part of such a massive and unwieldy scrum!
